Bird watchers at different times of the year may observe Golden Eagles, Bald Eagles, Orioles, Woodpeckers, Nuthatches, and a wide variety of Waterfowl (ducks, swans, geese) and Shore Birds (avocets, snipe, curlews, herons, plovers, and others)
Horse-Thief Cave, located in one of the small canyons on the ranch, is where oldtimers claim “Doc” Middleton, an old west gentleman bandit, hid from the cavalry and the Oglala Sioux Indians
Guests with a sharp eye may also go home with a real souvenir of the trip, if they happen to spot an arrowhead lying on the ground. And they can be anywhere.
Hikers have easy access to three large canyons filled with a transition forest, containing evergreens and hardwoods, and spring-fed streams. Moving quietly, hikers may see White-tail and Mule Deer, Coyotes, Porcupines, Raccoons, Bobcats, and maybe even a River Otter.
And just recently we’ve been able to offer guests with a trout pond here on the ranch. Located in one of the canyons, amongst the trees, you can watch birds, relax, and fish for Rainbow Trout.
The ranch is only 17 miles from Gordon, where you can find shops, museums, restaurants, and more. For information you can ask us at the ranch or get in touch with the local Chamber of Commerce at (308-282-0730). We’re sure that there is something for everyone to enjoy!
Come as our guest and leave as our friend.
